Away at last

0 left to thread :-)
Weaving begins, I noticed one thread threaded wrong two on board 2 and missing a 3 so clipped the heddle and moved it back a board to 3. Also missed a reed out in two places which leaves what looks like a thread gap but isn't.

Tweed number 2

Beaming for a second time, then on to threading for hours, mind a nice yarn to handle and look at

I've added pages of  the beaming process

Leather arrived

It's all been happening the leather arrived and has now been fitted to replace the old perished leather, and very smart it looks too.

Looks right proper does that!

First attempt collected from The Carloway Mill, after they have finished it. I was very pleased with the outcome for a first attempt....... on to practice piece number 2.

Awaiting new leather

The loom's leather parts are very old and have started to fail, so I am waiting for the arrival of my order from http://journeyman-leather.co.uk/ in Shetland, new straps for the weights that keep the finished tweed rolled up tight. For the cross leather that catches the shuttle and slows it down gently and the pick arm straps that flick the shuttle across the warp at up to 28mph.

Friday 20 November 2015

A bit of arty weaving, not really the right loom for this sort of work but played with the ends of the warp.

The Mill

Those lovely people at Carloway Mill, they didn't laugh, in fact they made very encouraging noises, and are now finishing my first attempt. Can't wait to see how it turns out
